Los Alamos Community Boards Need You

We mention the Environmental Sustainability Board a lot in Save Los Alamos, as this group was originally founded to focus on environmental and sustainability issues in Los Alamos County.  But there are other citizen boards in Los Alamos county that also need to be mentioned.  We have a very unique opportunity here in Los Alamos to be involved in County government via these boards.

As of today, these are the current and upcoming vacancies. Some of these positions are specific to your voter registration. In other words the position must be filled specifically by a Dem, Repub, or a DTS.  DTS means "decline to state" or in other words you are not affiliated with any political party.  In New Mexico "Independent" is a political party, as is Libertarian and Green.  Some of these positions are immediate and some have a specific start date on them.

1. Art in Public Places: Member, DTS. Term starts November 2019.

2. Community Development Advisory: 1 - Immediate start and 3 - positions that start in August 2019. 

3. Environmental Sustainability: Member, Democrat; term starts August 2019.

4. Historic Preservation: 3 immediate start positions, term ends May 2020.

5. Library: Chair, term starting September 2019, DTS.  Vice-chair, term starting September 2019, Dem.

6. Lodger's Tax Advisory:  2 positions, vice-chair and a member. Term starts December 2019.

7. Parks & Rec:  3 positions, vice-chair and 2 members.  The vice-chair and one member are Dem, the second member is Indp.

8. Planning & Zoning:  3, immediate positions, term ends March 2022.

9.  Transportation: 1 immediate position, term ends Feb 2021.

I know community service can be a sacrifice, but if you can dedicate some time, please apply and serve.
